What a another beautiful summer morning, today!
In late January 2004, I traveled to China for the first time with my wife and her friend.
It was new years season, and we stayed our Chinese friend's house in Tianjin.
Her Mum and Dad gave us a warm welcome, they spent a lot of time to help us and made us happy.
I remember they took us to a huge seafood restaurant one day and all the waiters and waitresses were working with roller skates!
The cuisine was so good and they entertained us with a solo-violin live music.
It was a wonderful experience and we appreciated to the parents of our Chinese friend.
The climate was so freezing, so I need to buy long underwear suits straight away.
One day, we went to the Great Wall of China by a sightseeing bus.
I got a water bottle with me and I spent about 2 hours walking on the great wall.
I felt thirsty and when I was about to drink my water, it was all frozen!
We also went to Beijing and saw a lot of places like Tiananmen square, the Forbidden City, Hutong area and more.
This painting is a part of the Forbidden City, I don't know the name of this particular building though.
I painted my wife and two friends together in the picture.
I have lots of other episodes in this travel, but I'll talk to you another time.
今日も素晴らしい夏の朝になりました！
昨日の夕方からまた一時的に雷雨に見舞われましたが、先週ほどひどくはありませんでした。しかし、雲の移り変わりの美しさは この季節ならではだと感じます。
今回は、中国のスケッチをご紹介します。
２００４年の旧暦のお正月に、中国へ初めて行きました。
妻が当時勤めていた会社の同僚のお二方と一緒に 計４名で出掛けました。
同僚のお一人が 天津出身の中国の方で、彼女の里帰りにいわば ついて行った訳ですね。
彼女のご両親のお宅にあたたかく迎えていただき、そして大変お世話になりました。
ご両親には ぼくたちを様々な場所へ連れ出していただいたり、中国の新年(爆竹が凄かった！)を共に楽しく過ごさせていただいたりして、とても感謝しています。
大きな海鮮レストランにお招きいただいた時のことは とてもよく憶えていますが、信じられないくらいの規模のレストランで、ほとんどが会食用の個室になっていて レストランの従業員の皆さんは、何と皆ローラースケートを履いて料理を運んでいました。
料理の味も素晴らしく、バイオリンの生演奏なども特別に頼んで下さったりして、大変なおもてなしをいただきました。
信じられないくらい寒い気候だったので、あちらではラクダの股引をすぐに買いました。
万里の長城へ行った時ですが、２時間くらい長城の周辺を歩き回った後、喉が渇いて持参していたペットボトルの水を飲もうとしたら、全部カチカチに凍ってしまっていました。
北京では、天安門広場や紫禁城、そして胡同の街並みも観てまわりました。
書店で、胡同の写真集を買おうと思い 店員さんに説明しましたが、全く意味が通じず、筆談をしてやっと分かってもらうことが出来ました。中国語の発音はとても難しいですね。
印章の専門店が並ぶ瑠璃廠(るりしょう)では、ぼくが今 使用している完成画への捺印用の刻印も作ってもらいました。
この絵は、紫禁城の中にあった建物の一つです。建物の名前は分かりません。
３人が左手に見えますが、妻と友達お二方です。着ているもので寒さが想像できますよね。寒い割に、雪が全く無かったのはとても不思議に感じました。
とても書ききれないほど、もっとたくさんのエピソードがあるのですが、それはまたの機会にいたします。
